201 – Style, Structure & the Female Perspective

March 16 @ 7:00 pm

In Style, Structure & the Female Perspective, we’ll explore how many women winemakers approach balance, texture, and site expression — not because of gender stereotypes, but because of training, philosophy, and decision-making. This class examines the intentional choices behind the wines: harvest timing, oak use, extraction, acidity, and restraint.

Through side-by-side tastings, you’ll learn how subtle shifts in winemaking choices shape structure and style — and how to recognize those choices in the glass.

What You’ll Learn

  • How structure is built: acidity, tannin, alcohol, and texture

  • Why restraint vs. power is a stylistic decision, not a quality judgment

  • How vineyard transparency and sustainability influence flavor

  • The role of education, science, and risk tolerance in winemaking decisions

What We’ll Taste

A focused, comparative lineup designed to highlight choice and intention, such as:

  • Two expressions of the same grape with contrasting styles

  • Old World vs New World approaches

  • A wildcard wine that challenges expectations (whole cluster, amphora, skin contact, etc.)

All wines featured are made or led by women, with producer context revealed throughout the class.

We will taste blind and semi-blind, discussing structure and texture before learning the winemaker’s story — reinforcing palate confidence and objective evaluation.

Style isn’t accidental. Great wine reflects intention — and learning to spot it changes how you taste everything.

🍷 More depth. More contrast. More “aha” moments. Still fun, still approachable.

A few tips prior to class:
