The Story of Tulips
Long before Tulips had a name, it had a beginning — inside the Westfield Wine Vault.
For some guests, what started as a bottle of champagne during their visit became champagne was the visit — start to finish! We didn’t set out to build a champagne bar. Champagne built it for us, one conversation, one pour, one convert at a time.
Why "Tulips"
The name carries three meanings, and none of them are decorative.
First, the glass. Flutes and coupes are fun, but they do wine this complex a disservice. The tulip shape is built for champagne — a wide bowl to let it open, a gentle taper to concentrate the aromas, enough height for the bubbles. It’s the glass for people who take champagne seriously.
Second, the growers. Most other wine bars are built around large producers, blending for consistency year after year. Nothing is wrong with that, but it isn’t our focus. Our emphasis is on grower-producers, families who farm their own vines and bottle nothing but their own fruit. Champagne with a face behind it, not just a label. A tulip, too, is cultivated — grown with care. It felt right.
Third, the community. A tulip doesn’t bloom alone — it’s planted among others, and the field grows together. That’s what we’re building at Tulips: not just a bar, but a community of Champagne lovers, growing one guest at a time.
What We're Building
Our mission at the Westfield Wine Vault has always been to become Central Indiana’s primary resource for wine education and experience — and at Tulips, we’ve turned that lens entirely on Champagne. That means monthly rotating flights so you can explore new styles and producers at your own pace, food selections chosen specifically to enhance the experience of drinking champagne, a Cuvée Club for guests who want deeper access — premium tastings and member events.
It also means a staff who take this as seriously as we do. Every member of our team works toward Comité Champagne certification. We travel to Champagne ourselves, taste with the growers we pour, and bring what we learn back home to Tulips.
But underneath all of it is one simple idea we hope you leave with: Champagne isn’t just for celebrations. It’s one of the most versatile, food-friendly wines in the world — bright enough for a Tuesday, generous enough for a feast, and always worth sharing.
